Indian Inspiration with Mary Gamester

Mary Gamester came to talk to us on 15 July and we all had a very enjoyable evening.

Indian Embroidery

She told us of her love for all things eastern and how the Sixties had had a great influence on her.   Mary's first trip to India, in the early Nineties, was a life changing experience.  She embarked on a textile holiday learning all about tie-dyeing, printing and the many techniques of Indian embroidery.

She brought a wide range of garments to show us, which we all examined with great interest. Some of them were from India and some were items she had made herself, inspired by her experiences.

Elephants are everywhere in India and appear throughout Indian art and design.

Mary also showed us examples of her quilting, patchwork and machine embroidery.

Thank you very much for a great evening, Mary.  Hopefully you will be back to visit us again in the future.
