Setting the Town Alight with Anne Hellyer

On Saturday 26 November we all met at Goodworth Clatford Village Club for a great workshop with Anne Hellyer. Anne is member of our branch of the guild and is currently our joint chairman alongside Christine Brett, so she needed little introduction!

Most of us had seen Anne's work before but had not tried out her technique of making a machine embroidered nightlight. We all received packs of instructions and templates, then chose our colour range from fabrics which Anne had painstakingly prepared for us.

With Christmas just around the corner, we all chose to make our night lights with a snowy theme.
Not all of us had done machine embroidery before, so Anne helped us with technique and gave us all very useful advice on how to get the best out of our machines, (and ourselves!)

We started work by cutting out 'lit' windows then stamped on other windows and added doors. Next we stitched the details and added snowy roofs. There wasn't enough time to complete the nightlights but we all hope to bring them to our Christmas party and use them as the table displays.

Anne also brought examples of other work she produces, including beach scenes and a fantasy tree to inspire us.

Many thanks Anne, for a wonderful day, the time flew by and we all achieved some amazing results. I can't wait to see them all lit up at the Christmas party, so no pressure everyone!!!
