Making Nuno Scarves with Karen Head

We had a great day on Saturday 18 March 2017 at Goodworth Clatford Village Club with Karen Head.  Karen is based at The Sorting Office in Eastleigh, where she works as a textile artist and she spent the day showing us how to make Nuno scarves.

Karen explained how to lay out merino wool on silk chiffon and then how to apply silk threads to add a bit of sparkle to our scarves. She brought a very wide selection of colours for us to choose from and everyone found just what they were looking for!

We spent the morning arranging and rearranging our designs and admiring what everyone else was doing! By lunchtime, there was colour and shimmer everywhere!

After lunch we started the felting process.  We applied soapy water and started rubbing and rolling our scarves until Karen was satisfied that they were all 'just right'.

After giving each one a thorough rinse, we took our damp, designer scarves home and laid them out to dry. Once dry and ironed, the full beauty of the Nuno process could be seen and marvelled at.

Thank you Karen, for a lovely day, we all enjoyed ourselves and proudly wore our scarves to our evening meeting on the following Monday.
