Hadron Collider and Candle with Kate Findlay
We met last Saturday, 25 November 2017, at Goodworth Clatford Village Club, for a fascinating workshop with Kate Findlay. Kate had been to talk to us last year and showed us her Hadron Collider series of quilts and we were all keen to learn more about them.
Fortunately she had brought some small samples of her work to show us and outlined the basic techniques involved, to produce swirling circles of glitter and motion.
Amid the chatter and pleasure we gained from Kate's clear instructions, we set to work on our own designs and after quite a bit of 'which side looks best?' and 'do you like the colours?', by lunchtime we had all got the basic structure together. Although we didn't all finish, the 3 examples below show what can be achieved in a short space of time.
After lunch Kate showed us how to make electronic candles, using conductive thread together with LED lights. It was an illuminating experience and we thoroughly enjoyed learning the basics of e-sewing.
Many thanks Kate, for giving us such a super workshop. I'm sure everyone learnt something new, even the most experienced amongst us. It was a wonderful way to spend a very cold and frosty Saturday!
